Herndon ArtSpace is an artistic hub in the heart of downtown Herndon, VA. It is devoted to cultivating visual and media arts, as well as small-scale musical, dramatic, and film performances. This community gallery regularly features artwork and events by both local and nationally renowned artists.
In 2008, Herndon ArtSpace was created as a project of the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts. The foundation's mission is to promote and construct a full-scale arts center in downtown Herndon. Each year, the gallery presents between 10 and 11 exhibits, and is now part of the new Arts Herndon organization. ArtSpace is used as a gathering place for events, and also includes space for classes and workshops. Admission is free, and there is ample free parking. Art is available to purchase, as are small gifts. Ticketed events include music, film, and drama.
Herndon ArtSpace is maintained by volunteers and is supported by grants and donations. It relies on generous donations from citizens, businesses, and organizations. Arts Herndon is the product of a merger between two Herndon-based arts organizations, the Council for the Arts of Herndon and the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts. The Council has provided over $140,000 in arts scholarships, 5 public murals, and arts outreach in public schools, senior centers, festivals, and public spaces.
The 1,700 square foot Post Gallery showcases 8 to 10 visual art shows each year, and receptions are held to give the public a chance to meet the artists. There are also art competitions for fine art photography, portraits, and the town calendar. At ArtSpace, artists have access to studio and classroom spaces to impart their knowledge and skills to adults, teens, and children. Additionally, the gallery and studio space can be rented for private and business meetings, receptions, and family events.
Beyond the gallery, Arts Herndon also takes the arts out into the community. They host Hands-on Art at the Herndon Festival, and their outreach projects include the Children's International Festival at Frying Pan Park and Arts Kits for Kids with InMed Partnerships for Children. Arts Herndon strives to bring the arts to life in the greater Herndon area and to promote a creative, vibrant community.
